RTDs in a Grocery Store Near You?

Searching for canned ranch water for your next boat or beach trip this summer? There may be good news in your future.

More and more states are considering legislation to allow ready-to-drink (RTD) beverages to be sold at beer and wine retailers. These changes would greatly expand the accessibility of spirits-based RTDs, a growing segment in the craft beverage industry. For example, in California, DISCUS (Distilled Spirits Council of the U.S.) estimates that beer and wine based RTDs are sold in more than 28,000 locations versus 14,000 locations for spirits RTDs.

While the vote is still out, one thing remains certain – when it comes to accessibility and convenience at these locations, aluminum cans are the drink packaging of choice for spirits RTDs. Led by Cutwater Spirits, cocktails in the 12 oz can and 16 oz can format are rapidly finding their way to shelves near you.
